Competition day is finally almost here! All the practices, all that preparation, and all your athlete's passion lead to this moment (and several more to follow). To help you shine as bright as Vivid and stay strong like the Gems, here are my top comp day tips:
Start Strong with Breakfast. Fuel your body with something nutritious and energizing—think protein-packed options like eggs or low-sugar Greek yogurt, or your favorite protein bar. Have a picky eater? I am one and I'm raising one, so I've listed some of our favorite healthy go-to's that you'll always find in my cheer bag:
Quest Peanut Butter Protein Cups - Find them on Amazon here
Power Crunch Protein Wafer Bars: Triple Chocolate - Amazon Link
Larabars - we usually buy these on sale at Kroger
Hydration is key, too, so sip on water throughout the day.

Pack Like a Pro. Double-check your bag for all the essentials: uniforms, makeup, hair supplies, snacks, and any lucky charms that give you confidence. A checklist is your best friend here! If you're in iPhone user, I highly suggest investing in some Apple AirTags for your cheer bag and/or shoe bag. Grab a 4 pack of these AirTags and some holders from Amazon so someone can know where your stuff is at all times! Additionally, check out this hot pink makeup bag and belt bag for all things TGC!
Stay Positive. Competition jitters are normal, but focus on the excitement of the day instead of the nerves. Visualize your routine going perfectly and channel that energy into your performance. Nervous? Have a photoshoot with a friend!
Support Your Teammates. A strong team is built on encouragement. Cheer each other on, help fix a stray bobby pin, straighten a bow, or share a quick pep talk before hitting the floor. Also, when your schedule allows, stick around and watch as many other TGC teams as you can. This reminds us that we aren't just one athlete on one team, rather we are one member of a phenomenal family!
Focus on the Fun. While winning is amazing, remember why you started: the love of the sport, the thrill of performing, and the joy of being with your team. Give yourself some grace if things don't go 100% flawless. It was the first competition of the season, and maybe even your first one ever! The good news?! We get to do it all again next month!
Breathe. Take a deep breath before stepping on the mat. Be fully in the moment—this is your time to shine! Leave nothing to chance. My daddy used to always remind me that as as long as a I did my best, I've done all that I can do. So go out there and give it all you've got. At the end of the day you can 100% say you did your best.
Be Present. Parents, be present. Watch it live. Scream your heart out. Clap until your hands hurt. YOU are your kids #1 fan. I know your kid wants a video, so ask a nearby parent from another team to video on your phone. But trust me, the coaches will review the ups and downs of the routine with the team, your baby doesn't need to critique themselves apart. Praise them and gush over how great they did - no. matter. what.
Good luck, teams! Shine like the diamonds you are! - Coach Katie 💎
